The Unoffical Ramiya Ryō (蘭宮 涼) Archive!

Who is Ramiya Ryō?

Ramiya Ryō ia a Japanese illustrator and manga artist. She was extremely popular during the 90s to 2000s, but has made art since 1986 or earlier, and all the way up til 2021. She's done various different types of art and worked on various things, though a good chunk of her work is doujin, or illustrations for adult magazines and telephone cards. Her artwork is all done traditionally (on paper), even her newest artworks.

A lot of her work focuses on woman/woman relationships, with that being a common theme in some of her early doujin, and also a common theme on her later illustrations as well. In general, a lot of her artwork is focused on pretty girls, with almost all of her full illustrations focusing on feminine characters. Apart from that, there's several other common themes which show up in her work. She tends to draw things she enjoys, which leads to her other passions seeping into her artwork, such as her passion for sea creatures. A reoccuring symbol of hers is a sunfish, which usually shows up alongside her early signatures and during certain scenes in her manga.

Ramiya Ryō was very active in the artist scene, participating in several events such as Comiket, Comic Revolution, and Eshi 100 for a long time. She has also showed up to other conventions as well, such as Katsucon (USA) in 2000. She was a part of the doujinshi circle UROBOROS, alongside her husband Utatane Hiroyuki, who both have worked on multiple doujinshi together. She has also worked on multiple larger projects, such as Evangelion ANIMA, and a couple of other smaller franchises.

Nowadays, she isn't active anywhere. She is a very private person and does not seem to have any presense online, and doesn't seem to have participated in any events, the last one being Eshi 100 in 2021. Most, if not all, of her artwork and books seem to only be available secondhand nowadays, and as far as I know she has retired art as a career.
